PRISE is an innovative new project to develop a crop pest and disease risk forecasting system designed for smallholders and commercial producers in developing countries.
Bringing together a broad range of stakeholders, including plant protection authorities, space experts, private sector companies, and the farmers themselves, PRISE will use state-of-the-art crop and pest modelling techniques to provide users with advanced warning of a damaging outbreak and appropriate advice on mitigation responses.
How does PRISE work?
PRISE models risk to crop health from insects and diseases based on environmental data. A traffic-light system is used to provide a risk assessment to growers in defined regions. Advice and support is offered via the Plantwise network and other extension services, which are also used to provide validation data into PRISE.
